TOUCH OF TEAL

The Forrest uses the iconic Farer colour combination of teal and orange. It’s a striking blend of colour that is nonetheless easy to wear. The grained teal dial provides the perfect backdrop for the finely crafted Lumicast numerals. These crisp white markers are made using the latest Grade X2 Super-LumiNova, which the tapered gloss white hands are also filled with. Set into the dial is a light peach sub-seconds dial, with a teal minute track and bold orange seconds hand. The peach is echoed in the minute tracks, which draw the eye back towards the fine white numerals, and the outer minute track is also sunken to add a further sense of depth to the dial.

As you would expect, this refined dial is protected by a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal. And, it’s housed within an incredibly svelte 38mm steel case finished to the highest “Grade A” standard, something that’s usually only seen on the most premium Swiss watches. It’s a markedly thin case, being just 7.95mm thick, and with its curved lugs, it hugs the wrist perfectly.

All of which makes this the epitome of modern sophistication. A watch that’s sleek enough to sit unnoticed on the wrist, with a dial bold enough to make a confident statement, and an exceptionally high level of finishing throughout every element.

FEATURES

Finer, Brighter, Better - The 3D numerals on the Lissom are made from Lumicast, a blend of Super-LumiNova and ceramic. These are our finest use of Lumicast yet, and each number is remarkably thin. They’re also our brightest, using the latest Grade X2 Super-LumiNova, which is easier to activate and lasts longer than the standard grade of Super-LumiNova.

Manual Drive - The watch is powered by the La Joux-Perret D100. Based on the venerable Peseux 7001, this hand-wound Swiss calibre is only 2.5mm thick, has 18 jewels, a 3Hz beat rate, and a 50-hour power reserve. The watch has the highest grade of movement offered, the soigné with blued screws. This means that each movement is adjusted in 4 positions, and features extensive custom decoration, with blued screws, diamond-polished chamfers, and côtes de genève finishing on the bridgework.

Making The Grade - The steel case is finished to the highest possible industry standard, known as Grade A. This top-tier finishing provides the Lissom with an impeccably polished bezel and lug tops that reflect the light in a way you would normally expect to only see on precious metals. Meanwhile, the case sides have a satin brushed finish that serves to emphasise the flawless polishing.

Think Thin - The Lissom’s case was designed from the ground up to be the pinnacle of understated elegance. At 38mm in diameter, it’s the ideal size for a modern day-dress watch. It’s only 7.95mm thick, and thanks to its angled lugs, it hugs the wrist so much that it's easy to forget that you’re wearing it. Though the Lissom is already impressively thin, the case sides are engraved with a keyline that breaks up the shallow profile and makes it look even thinner.

Less Is More - The Lissom’s dial is an effortless blend of refined elegance and sophisticated colour. The design is characterised by a set of sharp radially mounted numerals and an angular, tapered handset. A recessed sub-seconds dial at six o'clock completes the elegant look.

STORY

The watch takes its name from Scottish botanist George Forrest (1873–1932). He began his career working for another person whom a Lissom is named after, Professor Bayley Balfour, who employed him at the Royal Botanic Garden, Edinburgh. However, he is best known for being one of the first Westerners to explore the then-remote southwestern Yunnan province in China. Forrest would make seven trips to Yunnan throughout his life, collecting tens of thousands of plant specimens, and many of these are still held in botanical gardens around the world. On these trips, he discovered a great many species, and over thirty genera now bear the specific epithet “forrestii”, including three mammals.

While the dimensions and handwound movement may suggest a dress watch, the accents on the case, texturing of the dial, and bold colors give this collection a bit more levity — even the black and white dial — for a decidedly casual feeling on the wrist. →

I’m sure this series will find many fans. If you are looking for a modern daily wearer that you can also use for special occasions, look no further.→

The dial colours are typical Farer, a brand that has never been afraid of dabbling in a little colour science. And what I like about the five options that we have to us here is that there really feels like there is something for everyone.→
