IN YOUR SIGHTS

The Hewlett puts legibility first with a clean dial that features an oversized minute track and hour markers. The main dial is a rich ink blue with a finely textured surface punctuated by a deeply engraved crosshair. Highly luminous Lumicast numerals are mounted on top, and these are moulded from a mix of ceramic and Grade X2 Super-LumiNova. Surrounding these is a large raised minute track that’s also fully lumed, guaranteeing that the Hewlett is readable in any situation. The polished lozenge-shaped handset stands out thanks to its yellow Super-LumiNova infill, as does the bright red Farer ‘A’ at the tip of the seconds hand. The Farer 'A' beneath twelve o'clock is applied, and the lettering "Farer" and "Universal" is raised slightly proud of the dial so that it is crisp and legible.

FEATURES

Light Show - The Hewlett is a striking sight in the dark thanks to a lumed oversized minute track, Lumicast hour markers and hands using the newest Grade X2 Super-LumiNova.

Flight Case - The watch has a versatile 40mm titanium case with short lugs and a height of just 10.9mm, so it’s a great fit on the wrist. As the case is made from titanium, the watch is 25g lighter than the Pilot Series I

Faraday CageThanks to our inner soft-iron Faraday cage, the watch is protected from any potentially harmful magnetic fields up to 500 Gauss. This is over eight times the standard level of anti-magnetic protection required to comply with ISO 764 certification for anti-magnetic watches.

Swiss Precision - The watch is powered by the robust Swiss Made Sellita SW300-1 automatic calibre. A real pillar of Swiss movements, renowned for its accuracy, dependability and longevity.

STORY

The Hewlett is named after Hilda Beatrice Hewlett, who is notable for being the first British woman to earn a pilot’s licence. Born in 1864, Hewlett became increasingly interested in the emergence of motorsport and then aviation. She attended her first aviation meeting in 1909, and in 1910, opened the first flying school in the United Kingdom at the Brooklands motor-racing circuit with her business partner Gustav Blondeau. The next year, she instigated the first pilot’s strike in history, in order to secure a higher percentage of event takings for pilots operating at Brooklands Racing Club events.

Later this year, she earned her pilot’s licence from the Royal Aero Club and would go on to compete in various airshows. During the First World War, Hewlett and Blondeau ran their own company and manufactured more than 800 military aircraft for the British, though post-war the company found itself in financial difficulties and closed in 1920. In the late 1920s, Hewlett emigrated to New Zealand, where she continued to be involved in aviation.
