The new Nevada Pine has a stunning barley corn guilloché pattern dial that’s reminiscent of the geometric hypotrochoid patterns created on a spirograph. This textured surface is paired with a subtle Nordic pine green gradient colour scheme that draws your eye towards the centre of the dial. Onto the surface are mounted the hour markers, mixing batons and Arabic numerals, which are painted in a complementary jade green, and filled with white Grade X1 Super-LumiNova to ensure legibility in low light. The sword-shaped hour and minute hands are, like the markers, painted the same complementary jade green and filled with Grade X1 Super-LumiNova. The Farer ‘A’ at the tip of the seconds hand is also lumed, and lastly, the GMT hand is in a bold, highly legible contrasting orange. This GMT hand is used in conjunction with the bidirectional rotating bezel. Underneath a sapphire insert is a 24-hour scale that allows you to track a second time zone.
All of this is housed within a 40mm steel case that features the distinctive “ski slope” lugs first seen in our Chrono-Contempo collection. Finally, as a thoroughbred tool watch, the Nevada has 200m of water resistance, a screw-down crown, and a box sapphire crystal.
FEATURES
Sublime Slopes - The lugs are the defining feature of the GMT Bezel case. In addition to a large polished chamfer that cuts into the brushed finish, the lugs themselves have a “ski slope” shape where the tips curve slightly upwards. It’s a subtle touch that has a big impact on how the watch feels on the wrist.
Reliable Mechanics - Powering this GMT is the Sellita SW330-2 automatic movement. This dependable calibre beats at a smooth rate of 28,800 bph (4Hz), contains 25 jewels and has a 56-hour power reserve. What’s more, this is the 'Top Grade' version of the SW330, so it’s been adjusted for accuracy in 5 positions.
Afterglow - To guarantee legibility under all conditions, the watch’s hands and markers have heavy applications of X1 Super-LumiNova.
Turnaround - To track a second time zone the bezel is bidirectional and has a 24-hour scale protected by a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal insert. When used with the coloured GMT hand, the wearer can read the time in another part of the globe.
STORY
Like the other models in the GMT Bezel collection, the Nevada is named after one of the roads that surround Greenwich Park in London. The park is famously home to the Greenwich Observatory, which established the Greenwich meridian as the international standard prime meridian from 1884 to 1974.
It is from the Greenwich meridian that the concept of Greenwich Mean Time originated, which is the idea of using the time as measured at the meridian itself. Before this, the measure of time was highly localised, not just to individual countries, but also to specific regions within them. For example, it wasn’t until 1880 that Greenwich Mean Time was legally adopted throughout the whole of Great Britain.
As the world entered the Jet Age in the 1950s, the need for watches that displayed multiple time zones dramatically increased. Thus, GMT watches established themselves as one of the key complications of modern horology, and took their name from the Greenwich Mean Time that our modern time zones originated from.
