STRIKING SIMPLICITY
The concept of the Erebus is an exercise in modern elegance. Restrained, but never plain, the design strips back the Farer approach to its bare elemental parts with a devotion to detail.
A visually captivating gloss dial sits at the heart of the design. The pitch-black mirror finish plays with the light, with every move opening a new look on your wrist. The domed boxed sapphire crystal with its internal anti-reflective coating allows the dial to shine without creating any glare across the crystal. The applied numerals and markers, along with the skeletonised syringe handset, are in a golden bronze finish which creates a striking effect and makes the overall dial supremely legible. The outer minute track is white, with numerals in mid-blue at five-minute intervals to provide a contrasting accent. But the playful pop of colour has been carefully reserved for the Farer ‘A’ tip of the sweeping seconds in signal red, appearing to float on the end of the polished black hand, completing the modern classic design.
Features
Universal Case - The case is 39.5mm in diameter, with a 45mm lug-to-lug and a thickness of only 10.8mm, making it easy for anyone to wear.
Weekend Warrior - The watch is powered by a La Joux-Perret G101 movement. This automatic Swiss calibre comes with an impressive 68-hour power reserve. It is finished to La Joux-Perret's "soignée" standard, the highest grade of their calibre, which is adjusted to 4 positions.
Crystal Clear - The watch dial is protected by a domed box sapphire crystal, which has an internal anti-reflective coating. There is also a sapphire exhibition glass on the watch's rear.
STORY
Named after HMS Erebus, a Royal Navy polar exploration vessel, formerly a bomb vessel. In search of a vital sea route between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, the ship left England in 1845 in order to search for the North-West Passage. The expedition was commanded by Captain Sir John Franklin, a seasoned polar explorer who had already led two previous searches for the North-West Passage. However, his final journey to the Arctic would end in tragedy. A year and a half after setting off, their ships became trapped in ice near King William Island. By 1848, Franklin was dead and the surviving men abandoned their still-trapped ships. These scant details were gleaned from a note the crew left in a cairn. The exact circumstances of their deaths remain a mystery to this day.
In Greek mythology, Erebus is the personification of darkness and one of the primordial deities.
